What could
be more fun than a ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee!) The whirling and birling of the
dancers, young mixing with old and lots of help with the steps for dances such
as The Gay Gordons, The Dashing White Sergeant and Strip the Willow. A well-organised
ceilidh can sum up the very best of Scottish hospitality if the band is carefully
chosen. Entertainers Agency bands are some of the best in Scotland. They play
traditional instruments, wear kilts and will make all the dances easy and fun.
Four hours
of ceilidh can be pretty exhausting, so many combine it with a disco. So many
of us have had our evening ruined by a bad disco, so it is worth explaining why
we suggest this and why it is such a popular combination. We guarantee in our
contracts that the DJ will be smartly dressed and will play the music at a comfortable
volume. Best of all, you get to choose all the music! So with a band and a disco
set up side-by-side, you can alternate ceilidh and disco so no-one gets too tired
and there is music for everyone for the entire evening. Speak to us for further
details on how well this works.
As a finale
to the evening, Entertainers Agency can have an 18 piece bagpipe band march up
and perform a short 20 minute ceremony known as Beating the Retreat exclusively
for you. It has been known to have grown men in tears. Just imagine - your guests
assemble at the front entrance of your chosen venue towards the end of evening,
on the pretext of having one last photograph. Out of the darkness, the faint hum
of the bagpipes and rhythmic beat of the drums. As it gets closer, they suddenly
emerge from the darkness and the full ceremony and spectacle unfolds. The Pipe
Major will toast the bride and groom. It is a great way to thank the guests or
for a bride to surprise her husband.
